About

Randolyn

I explore how myth and dream, memory, culture, history, and quotidian details live side-by-side. I walk an aesthetic tightrope between comedy and tragedy. I know that every character is right in his or her own way, and that sometimes poetry, music, dancing or the well-timed physical joke speak better than prose.

I was born in the Midwest where I learned to dance and act while studying theatre and choreography. In New York I’ve served as actor, choreographer, director, and playwright off-Broadway, at regional theatres, in film, and on Broadway for Sunday in the Park With George. I’ve learned what matters to me most in the theatre from teaching at Juilliard, Circle in the Square, and Pace University. At the New School, I earned an MFA in Creative Writing where my novel won the Fiction Prize. Various lit mags have published my short stories and prose poems, and my essays on dance, theatre, and literature can be found at the online digest 3QuarksDaily.com. I am co-founder of Living Room Theatre, where we stage innovative productions of new and classic plays on tiny budgets in intimate settings. Four of my original plays have been nominated for Outstanding Premiere of a New Play by the Berkshire Theatre Critics Association, and one for the ACTA Playwriting Award. All these experiences have mixed and matured me as a theatrical storyteller.
